BIRT Resources

Innovent Solutions is an active contributor to both the BIRT project and that the BIRT community. Our developers contribute to two blogs that feature content about BIRT:

• BIRT World provides in-depth articles on various BIRT topics (with Jason Weathersby)
• The Digital Voice is written by John Ward and provides articles on BIRT, gaming, and his efforts to hack his various phones and devices. John is also the author of Practical Data Analysis and Reporting with Birt: Use the Open-Source Eclipse-Based Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools System to Design and Create Reports Quickly an excellent reference guide for open source BIRT report development. A second edition of John's book, called BIRT 2.6 Data Analysis and Reporting has been released.

• Innovent Solutions also maintains a Subversion repository of useful BIRT examples. The BIRT Example Repository provides read access to anyone that enjoys learning by example.
• BIRT is a strong proponent of the use of BIRT extension points to add functionality to BIRT. In an effort to promote extension use, Innovent has worked with Blackboard Inc. to create two Google code projects that provide valuable code which can also be used as demonstration code.
• BIRT Controls Library uses the ReportItem extension to add new components to the BIRT palette which help your users visualize their data.
• BIRT Functions Library uses the Aggregate and Script Function extension points to extend BIRT's scripting and expressions functionality.
• Information about the BIRT Project can be found on the Eclipse Foundation site.
• BIRT Exchange by Actuate provides useful resources including forums, wikis, dev shares and a Marketplace.
• Our BIRT Exchange Marketplace microsite can be viewed here, which also provides access to BIRT Functions and BIRT Controls libraries.
• Questions, technical discussions and resources on the Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools (BIRT) Project can be found on the BIRT Newsgroup hosted on the Eclipse Foundation site.
